Today's laminate is made with a very high recycled material content.
Laminate is constructed in layers to create lasting, affordable, beautiful floors. Four layers of material, each with its own purpose, are fused together to create laminate flooring that is durable and will last for years to come. Layer 1: A melamine backing layer provides a moisture barrier and structural integrity. Layer 2: HDF Core (High Density Fiberboard) - is the dense inner layer made of recycled wood fiber meaning fewer trees used with less waste. Layer 3: Beneath the top layer is the decor layer featuring natural hardwood designs. Layer 4: A melamine wear top layer offers a tough, beautiful finish.
Many companies that we source laminate from select renewable, fast-growing southern pine for their core boards. Most of the laminate boards are made of pre-consumer (post-industrial) wood waste. And not one exotic tree is harvested from the rainforest to create our beautiful exotic laminate floors. During manufacturing, the rejected laminate flooring products are integrated into their chipboard factories, and reused by third-party manufacturers or burned to serve as heat for the laminate process - rather than going to a landfill. Wood waste from manufacturing is used as bio-mass fuel for heating our factories.
Patented locking systems eliminate the introduction of VOC's typically associated with installation adhesives. All laminate wood flooring and laminate tile flooring manufactured after January 1, 2009 are California 93120 Phase 1 compliant for formaldehyde emissions.
When you're ready for a change, you simply unclick, remove and reuse our laminate floors - in another room, another home or give it away to a community organization.
