The 411 on waterproof luxury vinyl flooring
Especially if you have kids, pets, or homes prone to leaks, you'll want a waterproof floor. The answer is luxury vinyl plank or square, tile-sized pieces, the two forms of luxury vinyl.
Composed of watertight materials
This product is entirely impervious to liquid. It's made of PVC vinyl, so the capability is inherent; there are no special coatings or other features to help it.
It can be submerged or spilled on without damage.
Stylish savings
It looks just like genuine wood, stone, or tile. Some even have trouble telling the difference between this vinyl and the real thing. You won't pay nearly the same price, though!
Vinyl plank sometimes referred to as LVP flooring, is cut into boards to mimic hardwood planks. Like all luxury vinyl, it's photographed digitally and shows knots, swirls, grains, etc.
The squares, called luxury vinyl tile, are mainly used in stone and tile echoes.
All forms have depth, dimension, and textured looks. These include brushed, hand scraped, distressed, and embossed-in-register (EIR).
Durability enough to handle kids, pets, and heavy foot traffic
This is layered and five times thicker than the original product. At the top is a transparent, robust, melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and dents.
At the very top is a clear urethane finish. That adds extra strength and shine to your LVT or plank.
Only sweeping and periodic mopping required
These floors are low maintenance. Just be sure to mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and avoid waxy-shine-promoting products.
The latter can damage the finish and dull the floors. If you feel you need more shine, seek the advice of a flooring professional.
